Gray d'Éon (b. 2002) is a trash artist, who identifies as a trans-woman and uses She/They pronouns. Born and raised in Springfield, MO, Gray is an entirely self-taught artist that is just beginning their art career. She utilizes a multitude of different mediums in her work but primarily uses trash, found objects, and acrylic paint. They carry the self-chosen last name "d'Éon" to pay homage to one of her favorite historical figures Chevalier d'Éon, who was an influential trans-woman who lived in France in the 18th century. With primary influences from philosophers like Camus and Kierkegaard she aims to carry an absurd and existential atmosphere into her work. Gray draws much inspiration from post-war abstract artists like Alberto Burri and Gustav Metzger. They feel that trash art is a reaction to the socio-political situations she was raised in and a reflection of the world she sees as a result of it.
